Dear Friends,
At this time of Harvest celebration, let these words from Psalm 65 (verses 1, 9-13) encourage us in giving thanks and praise to God:
"Praise awaits you, our God, in Zion;
to you our vows will be fulfilled…
You care for the land and water it;
you enrich it abundantly.
The streams of God are filled with water
to provide the people with corn,
for so you have ordained it.
You drench its furrows and level its ridges;
you soften it with showers and bless its crops.
You crown the year with your bounty,
and your carts overflow with abundance.
The grasslands of the wilderness overflow;
the hills are clothed with gladness.
The meadows are covered with flocks
and the valleys are mantled with corn;
they shout for joy and sing."
Sunday 6th October: Harvest Festival - services at 9.30 (Heather) and 11.00 (Ibstock). Please bring gifts as you are able (see below). These will be distributed, following the services, to those in need to the local area.
If you are unable to attend, but wish to donate, please contact me, and your donation will be collected.
At both churches, we will be very grateful to receive non-perishable food items, plus toiletries (both for women and men). Examples of items that are especially needed and helpful are given below. All of these (from both churches) will then be taken to the Coalville Foodbank.
Examples of items that are especially needed and helpful:
- Long life milk
- Long life juice
- Tinned potatoes
- Tinned tuna
- Chocolate bars
- Toiletries - Shampoo, soap, shower gel, deodorant
- Jam
Please ensure that all food items are in date.
Also: at Ibstock St Denys we will be grateful to receive chocolates, biscuits and flowers. These gifts will then be taken to the homes of particular individuals with whom we at Ibstock St Denys have a close connection - but who are now very limited in terms of getting out.
Saturday 19th October: Harvest Supper and Social - Ibstock St Denys, 5-7pm. This will be the same kind of format as the lovely and very enjoyable event we had this time last year! - i.e., some entertainment (home grown! - do have a party piece you could offer, perhaps?!), followed by a meal.
The menu choice for adults is: mini fish, pie, fish cake or sausage; all served with chips; and with a choice of peas, beans, curry sauce and gravy.
The menu choice for children is: sausage, nuggets, or fish cake; all served with chips; plus a sachet of sauce, a drink, and a toy.
A pudding, tea and coffee will also be served.
The cost for adults is £10.
The cost for children is £5.
If anyone wishes to bring alone their own wine or soft drink, then you are very welcome to do so.
Please note: We will need all orders and cash by this Sunday 6th October: to Jenny Minkley at Heather, or to Lynette Tuck at Ibstock.
Offers of entertainment ideas for the Harvest Supper & Social will be very welcome! Do you yourself have a 'party piece', perhaps?! The audience will be very friendly, that's for sure!
Food Bank
Do please bring items to Ibstock St Denys Church which will be taken to the Trussell Trust once a month - and/or ask someone to collect items on your behalf. Thank you very much.
Please browse the other pages for services, meetings and events.
